Lasik Check List

- Dallas Lasik and lasik surgery.

How to determine if you are NOT a good candidate for this lasik eye procedure.

Has your contact or eye glasses prescription changed over the past year?

Career - Will it impact it or does it prohibit it/

Conditions of your eyes - Are there other medical problems with either of your eyes besides using glasses or contacts?

Do you have an autoimmune disease or other major illness?

The Lasik procedure is not cheap, can you afford it?

High or Low refractive error - do you use glasses/contacts only some of the time?

Do you need an unusually strong prescription?
What about tear production, do you have dry eyes?
The Corneal thickness, do you have thin corneas?
The size of your pupils, are your pupils extra large in dim conditions?

Are you read to have more than one lasik eye surgery to achieve the result you want?

Development of visual symptoms - do you know about glare, halos, starbursts, etc. and that night driving might be difficult?

Do you know that you "might" still need reading glasses?

Have you been advised of long term effects? Results may not be lasting - do you think this is the last correction you will ever need?

May permanently lose vision - do you know some patients may lose some vision or experience blindness?

There may be Contrast sensitivity.

Don't wear your contact lenses prior to evaluation and surgery

Complete a thorough exam - Have someone drive you to and from a lasik exam.

Read and understand the informed consent

Do not wear any makeup before surgery -possible up to 24-36 hours prior to surgery?

Get someone someone to drive you home after surgery.

Plan to take a few days to recover after your lasik eye surgery.

Anticipate that you may not to see clearly for a few days.

You may need to take drops/medications at regular intervals?

Be prepared to wear an eye shield (eye will be covered).

Theres going to be some pain/discomfort following your lasik surgery - do you how much to expect?

Know when to get assistance - do you know what problems could occur and when to seek medical intervention?

Know when to expect your vision to stop changing - are you aware that final results could take months?

Make sure your refraction is stable before any further surgery - if you don't get the desired result, do you know not to have an enhancement until the prescription stops changing?
